EMS Annual Meeting, 07–12 Sep 2025, Ljubljana & online: Call for abstracts until 14 April 2025

Dear colleague,

The 2025 Annual Meeting of the European Meteorological Society will take place as a hybrid event at Cankarjev Dom in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and online from 7 to 12 September 2025. The Programme and Science Committee together with conveners has developed a session programme that will offer many opportunities for collaboration across the entire weather and climate enterprise. We invite the community to join us for discussions and networking.

This year, a special focus will be on Growing use of AI/ML in atmospheric sciences and meteorological applications, with a particular focus on flooding and warnings.

Abstract submission is now open until 14 April 2025:
Submit your abstract

The format

We will keep the hybrid setting for the oral programme to provide the option to participate and present online as well. Poster sessions, however, are foreseen as onsite-events (only) in Ljubljana. For more details please consult the information on the meeting format.
We would like to mention that the Icebreaker will already take place on Sunday evening, 7 September 2025.

Closing dates

  • 14 April 2025: abstract submission

Support application deadlines for early career scientists & others

  • 14 March 2025: EMS Young Scientist Conference Awards (YSCA)
  • 14 April 2025, 13:00 CEST: registration fee waiver and Tromp foundation conference award to young scientists (TFTAYS)

Further opportunities

We would like to draw your attention to the following awards:

The selected recipients of these awards will all be invited to attend the EMS2025 in Ljubljana.

Abstract submission: Poster contest participation & agreement to publication of recorded talks

  • Outstanding Poster Award: We ask all authors at abstract submission to indicate whether they would like to participate in that contest should a poster presentation be assigned to them.
  • Please note that we intend to offer the publication of recordings of all talks given in sessions of the EMS2025, provided the presenters and authors of a talk agree to this. The videos would become available on the EMS vimeo channel, alongside the recordings from EMS2024. We are asking about your interest and potential agreement to this at the time of abstract submission, to understand if the interest is large enough to put work into this. We will then ask for a definitive YES or NO the moment the presentation file is uploaded to the system, shortly before the conference. For details see: https://www.ems2025.eu/about/rules_of_conduct.html

Practical information

We would be delighted if you would inform your colleagues about these opportunities and distribute the call for abstracts to your networks.

We look forward to receiving your contributions and seeing you in Ljubljana or online.
